Don’t Miss the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta!

Fall is a breathtaking season. Fiery pinks and yellows simmer in the sky before the sun sets earlier and earlier each evening. In Albuquerque, New Mexico every year, the sky is simmering with something else: hot air balloons. In October, people from all over travel to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! From Saturday, October 7 to Sunday, October 15, hundreds of air balloons float over the city while visitors enjoy races, activities, and delicious local foods and crafts.

Up close and personal

Get a bright and early start with Dawn Patrol each day as they evaluate the weather conditions before the balloons take to the air. Take photos of the balloons before they lift-off and talk to the pilots, who may even ask for your help! When the Dawn Patrol gives the green light, hundreds of balloons lift-off in a magnificent display called Mass Ascension. In the evening, you can walk among the tethered balloons and watch the propane burners inflate them during Balloon Glow. The lights and colors are stunningly set against the dark sky!

Competitions

There are many balloon competitions throughout the week for spectators to check out. Pilots take part in difficult events, navigating to precise locations between hundreds of balloons to win different prizes. And don’t miss the America’s Challenge Gas Balloon Race. Gas balloons can go farther and faster than hot air balloons, and in this race, whoever goes the farthest wins.

Food and crafts

While the balloons are up in the air, festival-goers can enjoy all kinds of amazing foods and crafts on the ground. With hundreds of local vendors, you’re sure to find the perfect treat or trinket.
